Goal #27: Scrapbooked into Oblivion

Goal #27: Scrapbook three pages and week for six weeks.

I wrote this goal the way I did because I was hoping to pace myself and not become overwhelmed. But as any scrapper knows, once you pull out your mounds of scrapbooking supplies, there is really no sense in putting them away again until you've scrapped yourself into a dazed stupor.

I scrapbooked 30 pages in three days - nine months worth of life in three days. This goal is completed as far as I'm concerned. If I didn't have the latter half of 2009 and all of 2010 still left to scrapbook, I would probably swear off of scrapping for the rest of my life. But I will truck on. Eventually.

The only way I was able to get through nine months worth of memories was by eliminating about 1/3 of the photos I had already printed. I figured I saved myself about 15 pages worth of work. But there was a certain level of guilt in tossing photographs of my loved ones and friends. Buuuut after 30 pages, I got over it.

Funny thing about memories and picture taking - I will take gobs of photos at any and every event and while they are fun to post on Facebook, scrapping that many photos does put into perspective which memories are really worth preserving. When I was in high school and college, my friends monopolized my scrapbooks. Now, it is photos of friends that get narrowed down in order to keep photos of family members. Interesting how your viewpoint on what is important shifts as you grow older.

I just counted how many pages I still have left to finish up 2009. Thirty more to go. Heaven help me, but I'm halfway there!

  1. Im impressed. I still havent scrabooked my wedding and its been over 4 years. I have every good intention but its like you said, once you take everything out, there is no use putting it back until its done.

  2. If you're really tired of scrap booking, just put the pictures in photo albums! You can even buy the ones that have room for notes on the side so you can journal about what's going on!

I've always found scrapbooking to be both time-consuming and very expensive! Do you have a cheap way of doing it?

  3. Do inlaws make the cut?

I haven't done my wedding yet either and it's been 33 years.

I do have all the wedding pictures ready to go for the 3rd son and his wedding. Guess what Jen...you made it in that cut! And I'm so glad.

  4. Only 30 more pages! That's nothing! I would agree with you that once the scrapbooking stuff is out, scrap till you drop! Unless of course you have a special location where you never have to put it away, then you can do a little here and a little there and spend little wasted time pulling it out and putting it away each time.

Scrap-booking can be very inexpensive! You can find really cool things in the dollar sections at Target, Michaels and various other places. Coupons work wonders if used correctly to purchase books, etc. Ross also has occasional scrapbook stuff for sale in the back. I got packs of paper for $2 to $3. (regularly would have been $15 or so). They also have albums. The other great thing is if you get together to scrap with others, you can share each other's things (Like the punches, cutters etc.) as well as having a good time sharing memories with each other.
